Pleated style. Net underlayer attached to lining. Fabric is a midweight poplin, the same as used in Baby's blouses. I generally ignore the 'do not wash' instructions (it is cotton, a medium wash with colour-safe detergent will not harm it), and have machine-washed this without any damage or colour degredation.
